Supervisor Termination Quick Guide
Use this guide for student employee performance concerns, performance improvement planning, and employment separation steps.
Performance Improvement
- Address concerns early, including attendance, tardiness, communication, and work performance.
- Clearly explain expectations, timelines, and follow-up steps.
- Document conversations and progress throughout the improvement period.
- If needed, consult with Workforce Development before moving to next steps.
Before Submitting a Termination
- Document performance or conduct concerns.
- Communicate expectations and provide an opportunity for improvement when appropriate.
- Keep notes that support the reason selected on the termination form.
Termination Reasons
- Involuntary Termination: Performance or conduct concerns.
- Lack of Funds: Position funding has ended.
- Resignation: Student chooses to leave the position.
- Transfer: Student moves to another SRJC department.
- Below Minimum Units: Student no longer meets enrollment requirements.
- Program Completed: Student has completed a certificate or degree.
- No Longer Enrolled: Student is no longer attending SRJC.
- Other: Use when none of the listed categories apply.
Important Reminders
- Student employees are at-will employees.
- Fall and spring enrollment minimum: 6 units.
- International student minimum: 12 units in fall and spring.
- Summer enrollment minimum: 3 units.
- Coordinate with IT if the student has college equipment or system access.
